I'm currently working on commissions for texture pieces to mimic nature particularly earthy and autumnal landscape. It's not always easy to get inspiration for Autumn when the sun is shining, the grass is green and summer flowers are blooming. Fortunately I keep a good sketchbook and reference photos from last year.
Today will be spent designing new pieces and stocking my Etsy shop ready for the rush from other textile artists and craftspeople to buy supplies to make their Autumn stock. Every year many buyers leave it to the last minute to get their Autumn supplies. They then either struggle to make their own stock in time for Autumn or miss out because I've sold out.I do my best to create as much as I can but as every piece is handmade I have limits as to what I can produce.
My appliqués and patches are a particular favourite at the moment. Whenever I have new stock the majority of it sells here in the UK before I have a chance to list it on Etsy. I reserved a whole batch a few weeks ago to put in my Etsy shop to show a range that I make but I've not had a chance to put more up since. Designers and craftspeople are using them mainly to embellish plain items as they work out a cost effective way to add special decoration in the current economy. I need to make some more larger ones. Smaller don't matter as much because those currently using them just cut them to the size they desire. That's the good thing about felt, it doesn't fray when cut.
